Retainers are a critical part of successful orthodontic treatment
Without retainers, your teeth will shift and may become misaligned again. You will visit us for check-up appointments at 3, 6, and 12 months post treatment. We recommend indefinite wear of your retainers, so please care for them properly.
Removable Retainers
You must be very careful when handling your upper retainers, as they are fragile and costly to replace. Always make sure you keep them in this case when not wearing it! To clean these retainers, brush them with toothpaste (sometimes with denture cleaner) using warm water. Do not use mouthwash, as this may weaken the acrylic portion.
Your retainers should be worn at nightime unless otherwise instructed, and should always be removed when participating in sports that require a mouthguard or while swimming. If your retainer feels tight, this means that more frequent wear may be recommended to prevent shifting. If your retainer becomes too loose or too tight, please call our office to schedule an appointment right away.
Fixed Lower Bonded Retainer
We recommend indefinte wear of your lower lingual bonded retainer to prevent shifting of your lower teeth. If your retainer becomes loose, please call our office right away to have it repaired.
