Who is Sunny? Sunny has been the Parks Orthodontics mascot for 15 years! She is a Sun Conure and she is 17 years old. Sun Conures are smaller versions of the more well-known macaw parrot. These birds can live to be over 30 years old and grow to be about 12 inches tall. Sun Conures have gold-orange plumage on their bodies and wings, and tail of green and blue. Their feet and beaks are usually black. The Conure’s natural habitat ranges from Mexico and Central America to the Caribbean Islands and South America.
Sunny is tame and affectionate. She likes to give kisses, ride on shoulders and nestle inside shirt collars. She loves chewing on sugar cane and enjoys a diet of sunflower seeds, dried fruit and nuts. Sunny is a feisty bird and has been known to nip, we do ask that patients avoid touching her. She can be noisy when agitated, but she loves listening to music and being around people. Her favorite place is her special condo in our Newport News office.
