Every year in February the American Dental Association (ADA) sponsors National Children’s Dental Health Month. The purpose of National Children’s Dental Health Month is to raise awareness about the importance of good oral health for our children. Parks Orthodontics knows that good oral health is a critical part of any successful orthodontic treatment. We think this is a worthy mission and want to do our part in educating our community!
Parks Orthodontics would like to take this occasion to encourage all children and especially children in orthodontic treatment to be diligent about a good oral health routine. A lifelong habit that you never have to break is good oral hygiene. Here are a few tips for keeping your teeth their healthiest during orthodontic treatment:
- Brush your teeth after every meal to remove food particles and reduce plaque that can lead to decay.
- Use toothpaste that contains fluoride.
- Floss every day!
- Choose healthy snacks and limit sugary foods and drinks.
- Schedule a regular checkup every 6 months for a professional cleaning.
The most important defense against childhood periodontal disease is to establish good oral health habits at a young age. Developing good oral hygiene will be beneficial for a lifetime. Join Parks Orthodontics in promoting healthy smiles for children this February 2016 for National Children’s Dental Health Month.
